Vacqueyras

terroir of Domaine des Genêts

Nestled at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Vacqueyras vineyard flourishes in a landscape shaped by time. Benefiting from a great diversity of soils and micro-terroirs, it produces wines of remarkable aromatic richness. The warm, dry climate bathes the vines in generous sunlight, offering ideal conditions for optimal ripening. Thus is born a wine of character, rooted in stone at the foot of the Dentelles and gently caressed by the Provençal light.

vintage

Rich and highly complex, 2023 is a powerful vintage. The vines coped remarkably well with the heat and drought, reaching maturity at the end of August and delivering a balanced and promising vintage.

winemaking and ageing

The harvest is carried out by hand and collected in palox crates. Once destemmed, the grapes are transferred into concrete vats. During the initial phase of fermentation, a gentle extraction is performed using carefully measured pump-overs and punch-downs.

A first stage of ageing takes place in large wooden foudres, followed by a second stage in stainless steel tanks.

wine profile

To the eye, the colour is deep ruby red with bright highlights.

On the nose, the wine first shows a slight reduction before opening up to complex aromas combining ripe red fruits, black cherries, blackberries and blueberries.

On the palate, this full-bodied and structured wine expresses itself with a robust, mineral character without excess.

The finish, with good persistence, suggests solid ageing potential.

“For such a powerful and full-bodied wine, this is very well-rounded. The abundant fruit and Mediterranean herb aromas are as impressive as the plush tannins. Develops very well in the glass. Velvety finish. […] Drink or hold.”

The Vacqueyras Appellation

Here, the soils tell a long geological story through ancient alluvium, glacial terraces formed more than 120,000 years ago, sandy-clay, and rolled pebbles deposited over centuries on the garrigue.
