terroir of Chante-Perdrix
The steep slopes of Cornas, facing East and South-East, form a natural amphitheatre bathed in sunlight, offering the vines precious protection from cold winds. Rooted in soils of highly decomposed granite, known locally as “gores”, and in dizzying terraces supported by sturdy stone walls, the vines draw their strength from this harsh, mineral terroir.
Chante-Perdrix is an authentic and characterful expression of Cornas. A wine of substance, breadth, and structure, combining generosity, freshness, and complexity, with superb ageing potential.

vintage
Marked by a dry winter, the 2023 vintage benefited from a milder spring, which helped the vines withstand the intense summer heat. Despite limited yields, the harvest, beginning in late August, produced healthy, high-quality grapes, promising balanced and expressive wines.
winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in palox. Once destemmed, the berries are transferred by gravity, using small vats, into truncated stainless-steel tanks. Gentle extraction is carried out mainly during the early stages of fermentation, through carefully measured pump-overs and punch-downs.
The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new, allowing for a gradual refinement of the tannins. 3 months before bottling, the final blend is assembled in stainless-steel tanks to perfect the wine’s balance and cohesion.

“[…] It reveals aromas of violet, tapenade and dark berries, marked by an attractive hint of reduction that preserves freshness. Medium- to full-bodied, juicy and round, it’s fresh and gourmand, built around a finely textured tannic structure with a delicate grain. Reflecting a slow ripening, it combines floral nuance with precision and lift, concluding with an ethereal, finely delineated finish.”

vintage
Marked by exceptional drought conditions and unusually early ripening, the 2022 vintage will be remembered as one of the most distinctive in recent years. Following a late budburst caused by winter cold, a warm and sunny spring accelerated vine development, while the heat of summer encouraged remarkable berry concentration. Despite limited yields, the harvest revealed grapes in outstanding sanitary condition, combining intensity, balanced ripeness, freshness and precision.

wine profile
The wine displays a deep, intense garnet-red color, immediately captivating with its brilliance.
In its youth, the bouquet expresses generous aromas of blackcurrant and dark fruits. With age, these fruity notes evolve into a more complex profile, revealing hints of black pepper and licorice.
On the palate, it is broad and well-structured, showcasing a solid tannic backbone and generous body. Its full-bodied flavors and overall depth faithfully reflect the richness of its terroir of origin.

“[…] Revealing a broody, introverted bouquet of iris, flowers, rose and licorice, it’s medium to full-bodied, dense and powerful, characterized by structured tannins and a fleshy core of fruit, leading to a long, elegant and tense finish. Despite its austere, firm character, it’s perfectly crafted.”

“Concentrated and dense, this is still tightly wound. Wet slate and granite notes provide a solid foundation for this red’s dark fruit, punctuated by spices and fine smokiness. Smoked lavender and a stylish cedar polish mark the formidable finish. One for the cellar. […].”
