terroir of domaine des tourettes
Unlike most producers in l’Hermitage, who craft their white wines on the clay-limestone soils of the eastern slope, we have made the bold choice to establish its white cuvée on the western side of the hill, on granitic terroirs traditionally reserved for Syrah.
A unique and daring expression of the great white wines of l’Hermitage, this cuvée conveys the full verticality of l’Hermitage through the singular blend of two of the hill’s finest granitic terroirs: Les Bessards and Ligne de Crête. It reveals the natural freshness and complexity of these terroirs by highlighting the aromatic bitters inherent to Marsanne.

Rainfall between April and June was significantly higher than the average of the past ten years. This led to high disease pressure from fungal pathogens, resulting in substantial losses across a large part of the vineyard.
Fortunately, the summer conditions that followed (July–August) helped preserve the grapes in good sanitary condition through to harvest.
Harvesting was therefore carried out according to a relatively late and particularly extended schedule, from September 10 to 29. Following rigorous sorting, yields settled at around 20 hl/ha.
winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested at full maturity and kept in whole clusters. Pressing is carried out in an open cage, with rigorous control of oxidation phenomena upstream to preserve the aromatic integrity of the must.
After a light settling, the musts ferment at low temperature in oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation is partially completed depending on the balance of the vintage. The wine is aged in barrels for around 10 months, then in stainless steel vats for 2 months before bottling, with the aim of preserving the wine’s natural freshness and avoiding any saturation of its expression.
wine profile
The nose opens with a refined bouquet of hawthorn, acacia and broom blossom notes. With aeration, delicate aromas of almond and hazelnut emerge, reflecting perfectly mastered oak ageing that is seamlessly integrated.
The palate is distinguished by its balance between freshness and minerality. The finish is long and elegant, lingering on nuances of sweet spices and honey.
Vibrant and expressive, this wine possesses remarkable ageing potential, promising superb development over the next two decades.

“[…] The 2024 Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes Blanc wafts from the glass with aromas of pear, white peach, flowers and herbs. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and structured, it’s layered with a delicate, subtly gastronomic bitterness that brings additional depth to the finish, enhanced by a well-judged élevage. […].”

Despite a rather rainy end to 2022, the beginning of 2023 was exceptionally dry in the northern part of the region until the first half of spring. The second half of spring was very wet, with the absence of the mistral from late April onward, though fortunately there were some fine days around flowering.

wine profile
This wine captivates with an aromatic expression that is both generous and refined.
The bouquet opens with indulgent notes of ripe quince and fresh butter, intertwined with hints of honeyed almond, white flowers, and an elegant chalky minerality.
On the palate, the attack is broad and rich, driven by impressive concentration and an enveloping texture. A deep, perfectly balanced acidity brings freshness and harmony, supporting the wine’s substance through to a long, saline, and harmonious finish.

“This great white Hermitage has terrific concentration and mineral energy on the medium-to-full-bodied palate. The aromas of Mirabelle plums and fresh pineapple plus a hint of vanilla occupy the foreground, but behind them is a great stony intensity that powers the extremely long finish. A delicate touch of bitterness completes the compelling picture. […]”

“[…] Unfurling in the glass with aromas of spring blossoms, ripe pear, white fruits and spices mingled with delicate notes of flowers with aeration, it’s medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, rather rich and muscular yet elegant and fresh, concluding with a long, sapid and saline finish enhanced by gastronomic bitterness. Pure and elegant, this is a sumptuous rendition of this Hermitage hill, perfectly crafted by Jacques Grange and his team.”
