A FAMILY IN THE HEART OF THE NORTHERN RHÔNE
The visionary Delas and Audibert families joined forces around a wine company in 1835, with a shared ambition to champion exceptional terroirs, year after year. Philippe Delas and Charles Audibert therefore acquired their first vineyards and worked tirelessly on honing their winemaking expertise. In 1924, Philippe’s sons took over the company to carry forward the legacy, renaming it Maison Delas Frères. The mission of Delas Frères remains unchanged to this day: to showcase the finest terroirs of the Northern Rhône through the creation of wines that are balanced, refined and elegant.
OUR TIMELINE
A long history since the 15th century
15TH CENTURY
The slopes of Tournon and Saint-Jean-de-Muzols have been shaped by the vine. Viticulture has deep roots in the Hermitage, with archives dating back to 1480. An exceptional winegrowing location, cultivated on terraces by generations of winemakers.
1835
A trading house was founded in Tournon-sur-Rhône by Jean Junique, at 18-20 Maréchal Foch Avenue. This would become the future family address and the headquarters of Delas Frères adventure.
1870
Philippe Delas and Charles Audibert became partners and acquired Maison Junique in Tournon with a clear mission : to perpetuate and share the unique quality of the Hermitage wines while revealing the great terroirs of the Northern Rhône.
1878
The House quickly gained international recognition, winning medals at the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1878 and at the International Exhibition in Sydney in 1879.
1924
Taken over by the brothers Henri and Florentin Delas, sons of Philippe Delas, the Maison was renamed Delas Frères. Driven by a new ambition: to travel along the Rhône to reveal the finest terroirs in a clear, human, and rigorous style.
1960
With the arrival of Michel Delas, representing the fourth generation, the brand took on a new dimension. He developed international sales, with representation in the United States, London, Geneva, Amsterdam, and Brussels. Delas wines began to gain recognition beyond borders.
1990
The 1990s marked a new chapter in our history with the appointment of Jacques Grange as Technical Director in 1997 and the release of the first-ever 1990 vintage of our iconic single-vineyard cuvée, Les Bessards.
2020
A new winery designed by Carl Fredrik Svenstedt is inaugurated in Tain-l’Hermitage. Combining pure architecture, natural gravity, and custom-made stainless steel vats, the site becomes a state of the art technical facility dedicated to parcel based vinification.
